The Fox Mowing gentleman was so polite and did a brilliant job on my yard. I have already recommended him to my neighbours.
Fox Mowing ACT has local operators across the whole Tuggeranong district, from the town centre at Greenway and the streets around Lake Tuggeranong to the rural blocks towards the Murrumbidgee and Lanyon.
Fox Mowing ACT mows and gardens right across Tuggeranong, the southernmost district of Canberra: nineteen suburbs and 117 square kilometres east of the Murrumbidgee River, home to around 89,000 people. The name comes from a Ngunnawal expression meaning cold place, which anyone who has scraped a windscreen here in July will understand. The new town was inaugurated in February 1973, the first families moved into Kambah in 1974, and the suburbs filled the valley through the 1980s and 1990s. Lake Tuggeranong followed in 1987, with the town centre and the South.Point shopping centre on its western shore in Greenway, postcode 2900.
The district is really several districts for a mower. The early suburbs on the Kambah and Wanniassa side have fifty-year-old trees and established gardens. The 1980s and 1990s streets further south around Calwell, Conder and Banks are more open and sit closer to the frost-prone valley floor. Then there are the pastoral leases and rural blocks south of the last suburbs towards Lanyon Homestead and Tharwa, where a mow is a slashing job. Our operators live in the valley and work all of it.
Book your free Tuggeranong quoteFrom a unit garden a block from Lake Tuggeranong College to a paddock on the road out to Lanyon, every job in the district is priced and planned for what is actually there.
Weekly, fortnightly or monthly rounds anywhere in the district, edges and blow-down included. What is covered is on our lawn mowing and lawn edging pages.
The 1970s streets of Kambah, Wanniassa and Monash have canopy and leaf drop to deal with. We cut higher in the shade, clear the autumn leaf and overseed where the couch has thinned.
Cold air pools on the valley floor south of the lake. Lawns there brown off early and green up late, so we shift schedules with the season rather than mowing to a calendar.
A rental between tenants or a lawn left through a wet spring gets multiple passes, catcher work and a full clean-up, from $100 to $250+.
South of the suburbs the district turns into pastoral country. Ride-on mowing and slashing handles long grass, paddocks and fire-season cuts, quoted on site.
Offices around the town centre, light-industrial yards and body-corporate lawns are kept on a schedule through commercial garden maintenance, with reporting for managers.
Tuggeranong gardens run from established exotic plantings in the older northern suburbs to builder-planted screening in the 1990s streets and windbreaks on rural blocks. Our crews cover hedging and pruning, weeding, mulching and garden clean-ups across the district from $70 a visit, and the same operator can do the lawn while they are there.
Something worth knowing: when the valley was planned, every existing tree was plotted on aerial photographs, and 40,000 native trees had been planted by March 1973 with as many again to follow. Those trees are now mature, and a lot of Tuggeranong garden work is about living with them — leaf, shade, roots in the lawn and limbs over the fence, which is where tree trimming comes in. Pre-sale tidy-ups and end-of-lease clean-ups are available district-wide through pre-sale and end-of-lease gardening.

The valley is varied, so we look first and price second.

The Ngunnawal name was earned. Frost is very common across the district in winter and snow occasionally settles on the hills around it, so from May to September the warm-season lawns go straw-coloured and stop, with the valley floor south of the lake frosting hardest and longest. Tall fescue keeps going and wants the odd cut. Spring comes with the wettest months of the year and the soil warms past the mid-teens around mid-October, when the whole valley seems to grow at once. Summers are dry and warm to hot with north-westerlies coming over the ranges, so we lift the cut and keep watering deep and early within the ACT rules. Autumn is the second flush and the time to feed the lawn before the late-April frosts and to patch thin lawns with new turf while the ground still holds warmth.
We mow right across the Tuggeranong district — Kambah, Wanniassa, Monash, Greenway, Oxley, Isabella Plains, Calwell, Theodore, Conder, Gordon, Banks and Richardson among them, plus the rural blocks out to Tharwa and Williamsdale — and across the wider Canberra service area. Nearby? Ask and we will sort a local operator.
The Fox Mowing gentleman was so polite and did a brilliant job on my yard. I have already recommended him to my neighbours.
They were very accommodating to my tight deadline for the initial work that I have decided to make it a permanent mowing job every fortnight. Our yard has never looked better. Great people, great experience. Would highly recommend them.
What a great company. Its really refreshing to get a mowing job done where you as a person feel looked after. Will use them again on an ongoing basis. Please try them, you will be glad you did.
My initial mowing job was quite a difficult task for the person from Fox Mowing as the grass was tall. However, the skill and patience he showed was admirable. He took his time and made sure that the yard was brought to its original glory days. Cannot recommend them highly enough. They truly are a cut above the rest.
Fox gave me a quote, made an arrangement, set the time and date, and was here on time and did what we discussed. Would use Fox again for sure.
Chris was very accommodating to my tight deadline. Extremely happy with both the customer service and the work undertaken.
Across the Tuggeranong district a small maintained lawn starts from $50, a standard block with the edges done and the paths blown is usually $70 to $150+, garden visits begin at $70, overgrown lawns are $100 to $250+ and rural blocks that need a ride-on or slasher are quoted on site. The operator who does the work confirms the price before starting.
Because it is a valley, and cold air runs downhill. The district's name comes from a Ngunnawal expression meaning cold place, and on still winter nights the air settles on the valley floor around and south of Lake Tuggeranong. Frost is very common from May to September, snow occasionally falls on the surrounding hills, and warm-season lawns in the low suburbs stay brown a little longer than those on the slopes.
Most Tuggeranong lawns are couch or kikuyu, often mixed, in the 1970s and 1980s suburbs, with soft-leaf buffalo in the later streets and tall fescue wherever people want green through winter or have a shaded, south-facing yard. Couch and kikuyu handle the dry summers well but go dormant through the frosts; fescue holds colour in winter but wants more water in January. We mow each type at the height that suits it.
Yes. Hedging, pruning, weeding, mulching, garden bed clean-ups and green waste removal are available in every Tuggeranong suburb from $70 a visit, and most customers book the garden and the lawn together so one operator does both.
We can. Offices, shopfronts and body-corporate lawns around Greenway and the Lake Tuggeranong precinct can be kept on a fixed schedule with insured, police-checked operators, and we can quote larger or multi-site contracts across the district.
Ring 1800 369 669 or complete the form on this page, and a Fox Mowing ACT operator based in your part of the Tuggeranong valley will call you back. Suburban mowing can usually be quoted from the street; rural blocks are looked at on site.
