The Fox Mowing gentleman was so polite and did a brilliant job on my yard. I have already recommended him to my neighbours.
Fox Mowing ACT covers the whole Weston Creek district and the Molonglo Valley beside it, from the 1969 streets of Waramanga and Fisher to the newest blocks in Denman Prospect.
Fox Mowing ACT mows and gardens right across the Weston Creek district, 13 kilometres south-west of the city centre on the western side of the Woden Valley, and into the Molonglo Valley suburbs that have grown up beside it. Weston Creek was gazetted as a district in 1966 and built quickly: Waramanga and Fisher took their first residents in September 1969, Weston and Rivett followed the same year, Duffy and Holder in 1970, and Chapman and Stirling in 1972. Hindmarsh Drive was pushed through from Woden in late 1968 as the main road in, and Streeton Drive linked it to Cotter Road in 1970. At the 2021 census the district had 24,630 people across 15.8 square kilometres, all in postcode 2611.
Two things shape the lawns here. The first is the January 2003 bushfire, which destroyed nearly 500 homes in the district — 219 of them in Duffy — and hit parts of Chapman, Holder, Rivett and Weston hard, so rebuilt houses with twenty-year-old gardens now sit beside 1970s originals with mature trees. The second is the Molonglo Valley, where Coombs, Wright and Denman Prospect have been built on the old farm and pine-forest land past the North Weston Pond, with young builder-laid turf on light, rocky ground instead of the heavy clay of the valley floor.
Book your free Weston Creek quoteFrom a Chapman block under Mount Arawang to a courtyard in Wright, the job changes with the suburb, and the operator is picked to match.
Scheduled cuts, edges and a blow-down from October to April, with a lighter winter round for fescue lawns. What every visit includes is set out on our lawn mowing and edging pages.
Chapman and Rivett climb towards Mount Arawang, Duffy sits under Narrabundah Hill and Denman Prospect drops to the Molonglo River. We bring the right mower for the gradient and trim the banks properly.
Post-2003 rebuilds and the Molonglo Valley estates share the same problem: buffalo laid over disturbed ground with no shade. We mow it high, feed it in October and February and, where it never took, re-lay it.
Holder, Weston, Stirling and Waramanga sit on clay that waterlogs in spring and sets in summer. Coring, gypsum and organic matter are timed for October or March.
School ovals, church grounds, club frontages and the rural blocks on the Stromlo edge get ride-on mowing and slashing, quoted after a look at the site.
Bindii pre-emergent in late May, general pre-emergent before the soil hits 15 degrees in spring, and spot treatment through summer. Our lawn weeds page explains the timing.
The original eight suburbs were named after notable Australians and their streets follow themes like rivers, native flowers and surveyors, but the gardens behind them are a single generation: planted in the early 1970s, now mature, and in need of firm hedging and pruning, clean-ups under the big trees and the odd branch taken down before it lands on the shed. That work starts from $70 a visit.
Over in Coombs, Wright and Denman Prospect the gardens are new, small and exposed, so the round is different: screening hedges shaped early, beds mulched deep before November to hold what moisture there is, and retaining-wall plantings kept off the footpath. Whichever end of the district you are in, a pre-sale or end-of-lease clean-up can be booked as a single visit with the mow.

One district price list, from Fisher to Denman Prospect, confirmed by the operator once they have seen the block. Everything else is in the Fox Mowing pricing guide.
| Lawn service | Guide price from | Typical inclusions |
|---|---|---|
| Small maintained lawn — mow, edge & blow | From $50 | Courtyards, unit strips and small maintained lawns anywhere in the district with clear access. |

| Gardening basic visit | From $70 | Hedging, pruning, weeding, bed tidy-ups and green waste removal, sized to the garden and its age. |
| Overgrown lawn recovery | From $100-$250+ | Blocks that have grown out over a season: staged cuts, extra catcher time and a clean-up. |
| Acreage / ride-on / slashing | Quoted on site | Ovals, institutional grounds and the rural blocks on the Stromlo boundary, priced on site. |
Important: These are Weston Creek starting prices. The final quote depends on which suburb, block size, slope, grass height and soil, access and how often the round is booked.
Three things move a quote around the district more than anything else.
A district with a community council, a football club and a cricket club of its own tends to prefer people it knows. So do we.
Crews based across Weston Creek and the Molonglo Valley, so the person pricing a Duffy block has usually mown the street before.
Small maintained lawns from $50, gardening from $70, everything larger quoted to the work and agreed before the mower starts.
Every Fox Mowing ACT operator working in Weston Creek is insured and police-checked, which is what property managers and body corporates ask for first.
Edges cut, clippings removed, paths and driveways blown off. A block should read as cared-for from the street, not just mown.
Weekly, fortnightly, monthly or a single visit, timed around work in Woden or Civic, school runs and inspection dates.
Call 1800 FOX MOW or use the form. For a plain mow we can often price it from a description and the street, without a visit.
Sitting on Canberra’s western edge next to what was once the Stromlo pine forest, the district gets the westerly weather first. Frosts start around May and the couch and kikuyu on the older blocks go straw-coloured; only tall fescue keeps ticking and needs a winter cut. September and October are the wettest months and the valley clay fills up, so we stay off the soft ground until it drains and the soil passes 14 degrees. From November the hot, dry north-westerlies come over the hills and the young Molonglo Valley lawns feel it first, which is where drought protection earns its keep. Watering is deep, early and never between 9 am and 6 pm during daylight saving. Autumn brings a second flush and the window to feed before the late-April frosts; that is also when bare patches get repaired and top dressed. We move each customer’s round with the season rather than mowing to a calendar.
We mow right across Weston Creek and the Molonglo Valley — Chapman, Coombs, Denman Prospect, Duffy, Fisher, Holder, Rivett, Stirling, Stromlo, Waramanga, Weston and Wright — and across the wider Canberra area. Nearby? Ask and we will sort a local operator.
The Fox Mowing gentleman was so polite and did a brilliant job on my yard. I have already recommended him to my neighbours.
They were very accommodating to my tight deadline for the initial work that I have decided to make it a permanent mowing job every fortnight. Our yard has never looked better. Great people, great experience. Would highly recommend them.
What a great company. Its really refreshing to get a mowing job done where you as a person feel looked after. Will use them again on an ongoing basis. Please try them, you will be glad you did.
My initial mowing job was quite a difficult task for the person from Fox Mowing as the grass was tall. However, the skill and patience he showed was admirable. He took his time and made sure that the yard was brought to its original glory days. Cannot recommend them highly enough. They truly are a cut above the rest.
Fox gave me a quote, made an arrangement, set the time and date, and was here on time and did what we discussed. Would use Fox again for sure.
Chris was very accommodating to my tight deadline. Extremely happy with both the customer service and the work undertaken.
Across the Weston Creek district a small, maintained lawn is mown from $50, and a typical 1970s block in Duffy, Rivett or Chapman comes in between $70 and $150+ with edges and a blow-down. Gardening visits start from $70, overgrown recovery runs from $100 to $250+, and the rural blocks on the Stromlo side are quoted on site. Every Weston Creek price is confirmed by the local operator before work starts.
All eight residential suburbs of the Weston Creek district: Chapman, Duffy, Fisher, Holder, Rivett, Stirling, Waramanga and Weston, plus the Molonglo Valley suburbs of Coombs, Wright and Denman Prospect next door and the Stromlo district on the western edge. The same Weston Creek operators also cross into Woden Valley and Tuggeranong, so if you are on a boundary street just ask.
Most of the Weston Creek valley floor is heavy clay that holds water through the wet spring months and then sets hard once the hot westerlies arrive in November. The answer is coring in October or March, gypsum and organic matter worked in, and deep watering two or three times a week in summer rather than a daily sprinkle. Blocks up on the slopes below Narrabundah Hill and Mount Arawang drain faster and need less of that, and the young Molonglo Valley suburbs sit on lighter, rockier ground that dries out quicker still.
Yes. Hedging, pruning, garden bed clean-ups, mulching, weeding and green waste removal are all part of a Weston Creek round from $70 a visit. The district has fifty-year-old gardens in the original eight suburbs and brand-new plantings in Coombs and Wright, and the operators handle both.
Yes. Fox Mowing ACT operators service unit complexes, body corporate grounds, rental portfolios and business frontages across Weston Creek, including around the Cooleman Court shopping precinct in Weston. Scheduled visits are set to a fixed frequency and invoiced to the manager, so the site stays presentable without anyone chasing it.
