Fisher through the seasons: shade in summer, leaf in autumn, frost in winter
The Fisher canopy changes the calendar. In winter the frosts from May to September put the old couch and kikuyu to sleep, but the shaded, south-facing lawns are often fescue and keep growing slowly, so they still want a cut every few weeks. Spring arrives with the wettest months in September and October; the tuff warms slowly and the warm-season grass rarely moves before the middle of October, which is when we core, fertilise and put the pre-emergent down. Summer under the trees is easier than on an open block, but the exposed front lawns still need two or three deep waterings a week before 9 am and a higher cut. Autumn is the big Fisher season: leaf drop from April, a second growth flush for the fescue, and the right window for repairing bare patches and overseeding before the first hard frost.
