Rural lawn care at the southern border
Fox Mowing ACT mows and slashes right across Williamsdale, the rural locality on the Monaro Highway where the Territory meets New South Wales, postcode 2620. The old Bombala railway line runs through here too; the station closed in 1975. The ACT side had a population of 43 at the 2021 census, with the rest of the locality across the border, and the whole stretch is rural leases and bush blocks between the Murrumbidgee and the state line. Since 2017 the most visible neighbour has been the solar farm beside the highway, its panels tracking the sun across the paddock next to the road.
The ground under Williamsdale is volcanic — dacite and tuff running in a band along the highway, with different volcanics east and west towards Angle Crossing — and it weathers to soil that dries out hard in a Monaro summer. Blocks here are acreage, not quarter-acres, and the work is what you would expect: house lawns around the homestead, long grass on the flats, driveways, boundary lines and a firm cut before fire season.
