Lawns on the slopes below Mount Rogers
Fox Mowing ACT mows and gardens right across Fraser, the suburb at the north-west end of Belconnen, bordered on its northern side by Kuringa Drive and rising towards the Mount Rogers reserve, which is part of the suburb and tops out at 704 metres. That hill is the thing every operator here plans around. Blocks on the upper streets have a real grade, catch the wind and the afternoon sun, and dry out first in summer; blocks lower down are flatter, hold frost longer, and stay damp well into spring. The suburb was gazetted on 15 January 1974 and built out from the middle of that decade, named for Jim Fraser, who represented the ACT in the House of Representatives from 1951 to 1970, with streets named after early residents of Canberra. It is a small place at 2.5 square kilometres with a neighbourhood oval and Fraser Primary School, which takes children from preschool to year 6, and it sits between Spence, Dunlop, Charnwood, Flynn and Melba. The lawns in postcode 2615 are largely mid-1970s couch and kikuyu, with fescue on the shaded, south-facing sides of the hill and buffalo where people have re-laid, and after fifty years the trees have grown into the picture too.
