Around Fern Hill, off Thynne Street, four-storey apartment blocks with shops underneath sit beside detached houses, and the grass in between is often strata-managed common ground rather than somebody’s backyard. Street names honour people from Australian tertiary education, from Agar Street to Jaeger Circuit, and the population has more than doubled since 2001, much of it in rentals and share houses. So an operator working postcode 2617 spends as much time on narrow strip lawns, nature strips and body-corporate turf as on family yards, and prices each one for what it actually is.
