The Fox Mowing gentleman was so polite and did a brilliant job on my yard. I have already recommended him to my neighbours.
Fox Mowing ACT has local operators in O'Connor, working the leafy heritage streets between Wattle and David Streets, the Tocumwal House cul-de-sacs and the hillier blocks running up towards the O'Connor Ridge.
Fox Mowing ACT mows and gardens right across O’Connor, from the flat blocks near Sullivans Creek to the streets climbing towards the Bruce and O’Connor Ridge. The suburb was gazetted on 20 September 1928 and named after Richard Edward O’Connor, a High Court judge and one of the founders of the constitution, and its streets carry the names of explorers, legislators, pioneers and native plants. Two-thirds of the dwellings are still separate houses, which is high for the inner north, and many of them sit on leafy, heritage-listed streets with the gardens to match.
The best known of those are the Tocumwal Houses in the central cul-de-sacs: ex-government homes trucked in from the RAAF station at Tocumwal after the Second World War to ease Canberra’s housing shortage in the 1950s. They come with mature trees and deep front lawns. The western, higher part of the suburb has different ground again, with Black Mountain sandstone to the south and greywacke on the ridge, so drainage changes from one end of a street to the other. Our operators in postcode 2602 know which O’Connor lawns dry out fast and which sit wet till November.
Book your free O’Connor quoteFrom the ovals at the O’Connor district playing fields down to a cul-de-sac off Boronia Drive, we set every visit for the slope, the shade and the soil.
Scheduled cuts through the growing season with edges along paths, kerbs and beds. What is included is spelt out on our lawn mowing and edging pages.
Streets that climb towards the O’Connor Ridge have lawns that drain fast and scalp easily. We mow across the slope, keep the cut higher and use the right machine for the grade.
The Tocumwal House cul-de-sacs and the older avenues have deep, tree-lined front yards where presentation matters. Clean edges, no scalping, leaves caught.
Mature exotic trees mean a heavy drop from April. We catch on every autumn visit and clear beds so the grass is not smothered by winter. Gutters can be done on the same trip through gutter cleaning.
Plenty of shaded O’Connor yards run tall fescue, which stays green through the frosts and keeps growing slowly. We never cut it below 50 mm and give it a winter trim when it needs one.
Thin, shaded lawns invite clover and Poa. Pre-emergent in spring, spot treatment where needed, and a feeding plan to thicken the turf. Our lawn weeds guide covers what we look for.
O’Connor gardens are mostly mature: deciduous trees, shrubs and hedges planted decades ago and now bigger than anyone intended. Our operators handle hedging and pruning, bed weeding, garden clean-ups, mulching and green waste removal from $70 a visit.
The work is different from a new estate. Instead of shaping a builder’s screening hedge, we are cutting back overgrown shrubs on a heritage street, clearing beds under big trees and getting mulch down before the November westerlies dry everything out. Around the flats east of Sullivans Creek the gardens are smaller and the job is more about keeping shared beds and strips tidy on a schedule. Selling or moving out? Pre-sale and end-of-lease gardening gets the block presentable in a single visit.

Important: These are O’Connor starting guide prices. Your final quote depends on lawn area, slope, tree cover, grass height, access and booking frequency.
The operator prices the block in front of them, not a suburb average.
The people who quote your lawn already mow the street next door.
Our operators cover O’Connor, Turner, Lyneham and Bruce week in, week out, and know the difference between a ridge block and a creek-side one.
Small maintained lawns from $50, gardening from $70, and larger or overgrown jobs quoted to the actual work before anyone starts.
Full insurance and current police checks on every operator, which is what owners, landlords and strata committees ask about first.
Edges done, clippings caught, paths and driveway blown clean. On a heritage street the front lawn is the first thing people see.
Weekly, fortnightly, monthly or a one-off ahead of an open home, worked around your week rather than ours.
Call 1800 FOX MOW or use the form and an O’Connor operator calls back the same day. Mowing-only jobs are often priced from the footpath.
O’Connor at 571 metres gets the full Canberra calendar. Frosts run May to September and the couch and kikuyu on the sunnier flat blocks go straw-coloured and stop, while fescue under the big trees keeps growing slowly and needs an occasional cut. September and October bring the wettest weeks of the year, and on the heavier ground near Sullivans Creek the lawn can be too soft to mow properly until things dry out. Higher blocks towards the ridge do the opposite: they drain fast and go dry and hard by December once the hot north-westerlies arrive. We feed warm-season lawns from mid-October with fertilising and give fescue its main feed in mid-September and again in March, and thin or bare patches get new turf or a top dress in the autumn window. Sprinklers stay off between 9 am and 6 pm during daylight saving under ACT water rules.
We mow right across the inner north — O’Connor, Acton, Ainslie, Braddon, Bruce, Dickson, Downer, Hackett, Kaleen, Lyneham and Turner — and across the wider Canberra northside. Nearby? Ask and we will sort a local operator.
The Fox Mowing gentleman was so polite and did a brilliant job on my yard. I have already recommended him to my neighbours.
They were very accommodating to my tight deadline for the initial work that I have decided to make it a permanent mowing job every fortnight. Our yard has never looked better. Great people, great experience. Would highly recommend them.
What a great company. Its really refreshing to get a mowing job done where you as a person feel looked after. Will use them again on an ongoing basis. Please try them, you will be glad you did.
My initial mowing job was quite a difficult task for the person from Fox Mowing as the grass was tall. However, the skill and patience he showed was admirable. He took his time and made sure that the yard was brought to its original glory days. Cannot recommend them highly enough. They truly are a cut above the rest.
Fox gave me a quote, made an arrangement, set the time and date, and was here on time and did what we discussed. Would use Fox again for sure.
Chris was very accommodating to my tight deadline. Extremely happy with both the customer service and the work undertaken.
Lawn mowing in O'Connor starts from $50 for a small, maintained lawn, with a standard mow, edge and blow on a family block sitting between $70 and $150+. Gardening starts from $70 a visit and overgrown lawns are quoted from $100 to $250+ depending on height and access. A local operator confirms the exact figure on site.
Raise the mowing height and water deeply but less often. Higher O'Connor blocks sit on sandstone and greywacke that drain quickly, so the lawn needs a longer leaf to shade its roots, two or three deep waterings a week in summer before 9 am, and a wetting agent or soil conditioning if water is running off rather than soaking in.
A mix, and often more than one on the same O'Connor block. The 1950s streets tend to have older couch or kikuyu in the sun with tall fescue where the trees have shaded it out, while renovated homes often have soft-leaf buffalo laid in the last decade. The operator identifies what you have on the first visit and sets the cut height to suit.
Yes, gardening is part of the same round. Hedging, pruning, weeding, bed clean-ups, mulching and green waste removal all start from $70 in O'Connor, and older gardens on the heritage streets usually need a solid spring cut-back followed by lighter visits through summer.
Yes, for both. Scheduled mowing and garden care for rentals, plus shared grounds at the flats east of Sullivans Creek, are regular bookings for our O'Connor operators, and pre-sale or end-of-lease tidy-ups can be arranged with the agent directly.
Ring 1800 369 669 or use the form on this page and a Fox Mowing ACT operator who covers O'Connor will call you back the same day. Simple mowing jobs are often quoted without you needing to be at home.
