The Fox Mowing gentleman was so polite and did a brilliant job on my yard. I have already recommended him to my neighbours.
Fox Mowing ACT covers the whole Canberra Northside: the 14 inner-north suburbs between Civic and the Federal Highway, plus the Belconnen and Gungahlin districts beyond them, with local operators in each.
Fox Mowing ACT mows and gardens right across the Canberra Northside, from the oldest streets of the inner north to the newest estates in Gungahlin. North Canberra itself is a subdivision of 14 suburbs, separated from South Canberra by Lake Burley Griffin and sharing Civic as its commercial centre, and it is where many of Canberra’s oldest homes stand, laid out in part to Walter Burley Griffin’s plan. At the 2021 census it had 26,699 dwellings housing 61,188 people, and the mix has moved a long way from the original garden-city cottages: just 39 per cent of dwellings are now separate houses, with 43 per cent flats and 18 per cent townhouses or terraces.
That is the core of the northside, but our operators do not stop at the inner north. The Belconnen district lies to the west and the Gungahlin district to the north, each with its own local Fox Mowing ACT crews and its own page on this site. Between the three, the work runs from heritage front lawns in Reid to a courtyard beside the Belconnen town centre and a clay-soil family block in Gungahlin, all quoted by an operator who lives in that district and knows postcode 2602 and its neighbours street by street.
Book your free Canberra Northside quoteFrom the Russell Defence offices and the ANU campus at Acton to the Belconnen plains and the Gungahlin estates, every job is set for its own grass, soil and exposure.
Weekly, fortnightly and monthly rounds in every northside suburb, with edges along paths, kerbs and beds. Our lawn mowing and lawn edging pages list what a standard visit includes.
Reid, Turner, Ainslie, O’Connor and the other original suburbs have big exotic trees and deep front lawns that need shade-tolerant grass, higher cuts and serious autumn leaf clearing.
More than half of North Canberra’s dwellings are flats or townhouses. Shared lawns, entry strips and courtyards are serviced on rosters for body corporates and agents across the inner north, Belconnen and Gungahlin.
The plains to the west and north sit on red duplex clay that holds water in winter and sets hard by summer. Coring, gypsum and top dressing are the fixes, timed for October or March.
The young, low-tree streets on the Gungahlin side feel the hot north-westerlies hardest. Higher summer cuts and drought protection keep them green through January.
Every district has its weed problem: bindii and clover in thin inner-north lawns, Poa in dormant couch on the plains. Our lawn weeds guide covers the timing.
Gardens across the northside range from ninety-year-old plantings on heritage streets to builder-installed screening hedges on a two-year-old block, and each needs a different hand. Our operators provide hedging and pruning, weeding, garden clean-ups, mulching and green waste removal in every northside district, from $70 a visit.
In the inner north the big job is autumn: clearing leaf litter from beds and gutters under mature exotic trees, then cutting hedges back before spring. In Belconnen and Gungahlin it is more about keeping young hedges shaped, mulching clay beds before the November westerlies and coaxing along plants that were sold as full-sun and are struggling in the heat. Across all three, pre-sale and end-of-lease gardening and scheduled garden maintenance are booked with the same local operator who does the mowing.

Important: These are Canberra Northside starting guide prices. Your final quote depends on lawn size, access, grass height, soil and tree cover, and how often you book.
An operator from your own district looks at the block, so the price fits your lawn rather than a Canberra average.
Local operators in each northside district, not one crew driving the whole city.
Operators based in the inner north, Belconnen and Gungahlin, so the person who quotes in Watson, Kaleen or Amaroo already works those streets.
Small maintained lawns from $50 and gardening from $70 in every northside suburb, with larger jobs quoted to the actual work first.
Every Fox Mowing ACT operator is fully insured and police-checked, from Russell’s office grounds to a Gungahlin rental.
Edges, trimming and a full blow-down on every visit, so the block reads as cared-for from the street whichever district it is in.
Weekly, fortnightly, monthly or one-off visits arranged around Civic commutes, school runs and inspection dates across the north.
Call 1800 FOX MOW or use the form and the operator for your district calls back the same day. Plenty of mowing jobs are quoted from the street.
The northside shares one climate but three kinds of ground. In the inner north, mature trees keep summer lawns cooler and dump leaves from April, and shaded yards lean on tall fescue that keeps growing through the May-to-September frosts. On the Belconnen and Gungahlin plains the heavy clay stays cold and wet through the September and October rain peak, so the soil rarely warms past 14 degrees before mid-October and spring feeding waits for it. Summer’s hot north-westerlies hit the open new estates hardest, and ACT water rules keep sprinklers off between 9 am and 6 pm during daylight saving everywhere. Autumn is the second growth flush and the season for a potassium-rich feed before the late-April frosts and for new turf or repairs on lawns that struggled. Each district’s operators shift their rounds with the season, not a fixed date.
We mow right across the northside — Ainslie, Braddon, Campbell, Dickson, Downer, Lyneham, O’Connor, Reid, Turner and Watson in the inner north, and the whole of Belconnen and Gungahlin — and across the wider Canberra service area. Nearby? Ask and we will sort a local operator.
The Fox Mowing gentleman was so polite and did a brilliant job on my yard. I have already recommended him to my neighbours.
They were very accommodating to my tight deadline for the initial work that I have decided to make it a permanent mowing job every fortnight. Our yard has never looked better. Great people, great experience. Would highly recommend them.
What a great company. Its really refreshing to get a mowing job done where you as a person feel looked after. Will use them again on an ongoing basis. Please try them, you will be glad you did.
My initial mowing job was quite a difficult task for the person from Fox Mowing as the grass was tall. However, the skill and patience he showed was admirable. He took his time and made sure that the yard was brought to its original glory days. Cannot recommend them highly enough. They truly are a cut above the rest.
Fox gave me a quote, made an arrangement, set the time and date, and was here on time and did what we discussed. Would use Fox again for sure.
Chris was very accommodating to my tight deadline. Extremely happy with both the customer service and the work undertaken.
Across the Canberra Northside a small, maintained lawn starts from $50, a standard mow with edges and a blow-down runs $70 to $150+, gardening visits start from $70 and overgrown lawns are quoted as recovery jobs from $100 to $250+. The same guide prices apply in the inner north, Belconnen and Gungahlin, and the local operator for your district confirms the figure on site.
All 14 inner-north suburbs of North Canberra, from Acton, Reid and Russell beside the lake up to Watson at the Federal Highway, plus the whole Belconnen district to the west and the Gungahlin district to the north. Each part of the Canberra Northside has its own Fox Mowing ACT operators and its own page on this site.
Yes, noticeably. The inner north of the Canberra Northside sits on calcareous shale and old river alluvium that hold moisture reasonably well under the mature trees, while the Belconnen and Gungahlin plains are on heavier red duplex clay that stays wet in winter and sets hard in summer. Clay lawns need coring in October or March and benefit from gypsum; shaded inner-north lawns need a higher cut and shade-tolerant fescue.
Yes, in every district. Hedging, pruning, weeding, bed clean-ups, mulching and green waste removal are available in every Canberra Northside suburb from $70 a visit, from old exotic-tree gardens in the inner north to young screening hedges in the Gungahlin estates.
Yes, across all three districts. With more than half of North Canberra's dwellings being flats or townhouses, scheduled mowing and garden care for rentals, body-corporate grounds and unit-block strips is core work for our Canberra Northside operators, and end-of-lease or pre-sale tidy-ups can be arranged through the agent.
Call 1800 369 669 or fill in the form on this page, tell us the suburb, and the Fox Mowing ACT operator for that part of the Canberra Northside will call back the same day. Mowing-only jobs can often be quoted from the street.
