Established lawns in the flying doctor suburb
Fox Mowing ACT mows and gardens right across Flynn, from the streets around the old primary school and George Simpson Park out to the Ginninderra Drive edge. The suburb name was gazetted on 9 September 1971 and honours John Flynn, the Presbyterian minister whose Aerial Medical Service of 1928 became the Royal Flying Doctor Service; the streets are named for people who worked in that service. It is a compact 2.1 square kilometres bounded by Tillyard Drive, Kingsford Smith Drive and Ginninderra Drive, with Charnwood, Fraser, Melba, Latham and Spence as neighbours.
Flynn Primary School opened in February 1974 as the first fully open-plan school in the ACT, designed by Enrico Taglietti, and although it closed in 2006 the preschool still runs and the grounds hold the national memorial to Flynn. Children now travel out to schools in Melba, Charnwood, Fraser, Latham and Evatt, which is a long way of saying that a lot of Flynn households are busy and the yard is the job that slips. The lawns in postcode 2615 are mostly original couch and kikuyu on blocks laid out fifty years ago, shaded in places by trees that were saplings in 1974, and that is the mix our operators are set up for.
