Seasons on the open ground of Environa
With almost no houses and no tree cover, Environa gets the Canberra-region climate undiluted. Frost sits on the paddocks from May to September and hard frosts fill the low ground along Jerrabomberra Creek through mid-winter. The spring rain in September and October starts the main growth flush, which on unmown land means seed heads by late November and dry fuel by January, so the first slash needs to be booked early. Summer westerlies cross the lower slopes of Pemberton Hill with nothing to break them. Any new lawn laid here will want a feed in mid-October and again in autumn, and the ground will almost certainly need top dressing to build some soil depth over the volcanic rock before it holds colour through a summer.
