Fox Mowing ACT mows and gardens right across Farrer, the suburb named on 12 May 1966 after William Farrer, the wheat breeder who worked at Lambrigg near Tharwa, with building under way by 1967. The streets are named after agriculturalists, apart from Lambrigg Street, which takes the name of Farrer’s property. It is a fair-sized suburb by Canberra standards, with more than 3,300 residents, bordered by Beasley Street, Athllon Drive and Yamba Drive, with Torrens, Mawson and Isaacs alongside and Wanniassa over the ridge to the south. The postcode is 2607.
Half of Farrer is the Farrer Ridge Nature Reserve, and the suburb sits around 643 metres up, which is higher and colder than the valley floor at Phillip. Blocks on the ridge side slope, drain fast and sit against bush; blocks down in the valley bottom are on alluvium, hold water and pool cold air. Farrer also has a lot of older residents, with Goodwin Village and The Pines both in the suburb, and a primary school, an oval and four playgrounds for the families who have moved in behind them.
