Very likely yes. Thin, patchy lawns on Gungahlin-area properties almost always trace back to inadequate topsoil depth over compacted clay subsoil. How do I stop couch grass spreading into my garden beds?

The most effective long-term approach is a combination of physical edging — a clean cut along the bed border every mowing visit — and a physical root barrier installed at the edge of established beds. Couch rhizomes grow underground, so above-ground trimming alone does not stop the problem. Chemical barrier application along the bed margin is possible but requires careful product selection to avoid damaging ornamental plantings nearby. Is now a good time to fertilise in Bonner?

The two most important windows for Bonner lawns are late summer — February to March — and spring when growth picks up from October onwards.
